Cold Weather Is Coming. Is Your Dock Ready?
Winter downtime at the loading dock is often preventable when warning signs are caught early. Before colder weather arrives, give your dock equipment a quick check to help avoid unexpected repairs, safety hazards, and costly downtime.
Prepare Your Docks for the Winter

What to Look For
- Seals & Shelters: Check for tears, damage, compression, or gaps.
- Bumpers: Look for cracking or crumbling that can allow cold air and moisture in.
- Draft Protection: Check for gaps around the dock leveler.
- Dock Levelers: Cycle each leveler and listen for signs of strain or hydraulic issues.
- Vehicle Restraints: Make sure each restraint engages and releases properly.
- Dock Lighting: Confirm approach and guide lights are working properly.
- Gates & Barriers: Inspect for damage before ice and snow increase slip and fall risks.
