Types of Cleanroom Airflow Systems
Once-Through Systems:
- Draw air from adjacent conditioned spaces through fan-powered HEPA filter units mounted in the ceiling grid.
- Return air via low-wall-mounted grilles.
Recirculating Systems:
- Conditioned air is recirculated through a sealed plenum via fan-powered HEPA filters.
- Air returns through grilles in return air chase walls and is managed through conventional ductwork.
Cleanroom Classifications
Cleanrooms are classified based on the number and size of particles present in a cubic meter of air. Starrco cleanrooms meet ISO 14644-5:2004 and Federal Standard 209E. Refer to the chart below for classification details:
For example, a cubic meter of urban air has around 35,200,000 particles that are 0.5 microns or larger. By comparison, an ISO 5 cleanroom allows only 3,520 particles of that size in the same volume of air.
