Designed for High Density Storage While Maintaining Selectivity
Pushback rack is a dynamic pallet storage system that utilizes inclined rails and a series of nested carts to store multiple pallets in a single lane. Utilizing a LIFO (Last-In, First-Out) system, pallets are loaded from the front, and the last pallet loaded becomes the first pallet to be unloaded.
Pallets are placed on carts that are “pushed back” along inclined rails as new pallets are added from the aisle side, creating a compact storage system. The force of gravity assists in moving pallets toward the front of the rack when a pallet is removed. Standard forklifts are utilized in pushback rack applications and provide a cost-effective alternative when LIFO (Last-In, First-Out) inventory rotation is needed.
Pallets on a pushback racking system are stored two to six pallets deep, providing more storage space with fewer aisles than conventional selective pallet rack. Pushback racks also allow greater selectivity than drive-in racks while providing excellent utilization of storage space – making it a perfect balance between high-density storage and selectivity.
Common Applications
- High-Density Storage – excellent for maximizing storage density, allowing multiple pallets deep within a single lane.
- Temperature-Sensitive Storage – a staple in cold storage environments for products with specific temperature requirements.
- Batch Storage – a perfect application for storing products with batch or date-sensitive inventory where the order of storage and retrieval matters.
- Limited Aisle Space – optimal for facilities with limited aisle space because this system eliminates the need for multiple aisles between racks.
- Quick Turnaround Operations – well-suited for facilities where efficient storage and retrieval are critical due to high inventory turnover.
